In Memphis, Tennessee, on September 28, 2025, a confrontation outside a Wendy's restaurant on South Highland Street ended in the death of 19-year-old Jaxx High. The White / Caucasian male was approached by individuals who were attempting to take him into custody. During the encounter, High fired several shots toward the men before ultimately turning the gun on himself.
Emergency services transported High to Regional One Health, where he was pronounced dead. At the time of his death, Jaxx High had an active warrant for second-degree murder in connection to an incident that occurred in July 2024. In that earlier case, the then 17-year-old High was arrested and charged as an adult for allegedly providing fentanyl to a minor, which resulted in a fatal overdose. Another individual, Samuel Sipes, also faced second-degree murder charges in that same case.
No arrests were made in relation to the gunfire that occurred at the Wendy's preceding High's death. Authorities' public statements focused on the attempted apprehension of High and the subsequent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Following his death, family and friends circulated obituary and memorial notices, and a GoFundMe campaign was created to assist with funeral expenses. A visitation was held on October 7, 2025, at Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis.
