On the afternoon of July 6, 2025, Donald Jeffers, a 26-year-old Black male, was gunned down on the 2400 block of North Reese Street in North Philadelphia. Officers from the 26th District arrived around 2:23 p.m. and found the 26-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Medics rushed Donald Jeffers to Temple University Hospital, where the 26-year-old male was pronounced dead at 3:01 p.m.
He lived on the 3000 block of Reese Street, close to where the ambush unfolded, and the immediacy of the attack left little doubt that the 26-year-old male had been deliberately targeted.
Detectives worked quickly through the first crucial days. Surveillance images and witness accounts helped them trace a getaway vehicle that, according to investigators, dropped off the gunman moments before the shooting and scooped him up afterward. That lead culminated in the arrest of 43-year-old Arron J. Taylor, of East Sedgley Street, who was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and related offenses tied to facilitating the shooter’s movements. Authorities emphasized that Taylor’s alleged role centered on aiding and abetting, while the triggerman himself remained at large.
With one alleged accomplice in custody, the manhunt narrowed to the suspected shooter. Police circulated still images and a detailed physical description: a Black male, roughly 5'6" to 5'8", thin build, estimated age 20 to 30, wearing a purple Jubba—a long, button-front robe—along with a black ski mask and a black Pittsburgh Pirates cap marked by an outline of Pennsylvania and a bold yellow “P.” Officials warned the public that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous and announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
