In the summer of 2025, a quiet community in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, was shaken by the tragic death of Jamie Alyssa Nevel. A 44-year-old female, Jamie was fatally shot on July 24, 2025, while she was mowing her lawn on Emlenton Clintonville Road in Scrubgrass Township. The incident was the culmination of what neighbors described as a long-simmering property line dispute with her neighbor.
State police responded to the scene and found Jamie Nevel deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation quickly led them to the residence of her neighbor, 52-year-old James Goehring, located across the road. Police were informed that there had been previous confrontations between Goehring and the Nevels. Neighbors also reported that Goehring had become increasingly unstable in the years leading up to the shooting, particularly after the death of his wife in 2022. It was also stated that the Nevels had previously reported their concerns about Goehring to the police.
After establishing a perimeter around Goehring's home, law enforcement's attempts to make contact with him were unsuccessful. A tactical unit was dispatched, and upon entering the residence, they discovered James Goehring deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Venango County coroner later officially identified Goehring as the shooter and confirmed the event as a murder-suicide. The investigation is being handled by the Pennsylvania State Police's major case team.
