On February 13, 2024, 32-year-old Denver Newton was found fatally shot alongside 53-year-old Lamont Wright in Philadelphia's Tioga-Nicetown neighborhood. The victims were discovered in the front seats of a parked Kia Sportage on the 3600 block of North 17th Street, with the engine still running. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage revealed two male suspects approaching the victims' vehicle and firing multiple shots before fleeing in a black Nissan Altima. The Philadelphia Police Department released images of the suspects in April, seeking public assistance in identifying them. At that time, authorities indicated that the victims appeared to have been targeted.
As of December 2024, no arrests have been reported in connection with the murders of Newton and Wright. The investigation remains active, with law enforcement urging anyone with information to come forward. Newton's family continues to seek justice for her death, describing her as lively and energetic, with a smile that could light up the room.
