In Oakland, a 33-year-old man with three prior drug convictions has been accused of murder in connection with the fatal beating of a 62-year-old man that occurred in West Oakland in January 2011. The suspect, Nathaniel L. Davis, is charged with the death of Eddie Jones, both residents of Oakland.
Davis is scheduled to enter a plea on January 28 in Alameda County Superior Court and is currently held without bail at Santa Rita Jail. The incident took place on January 23, 2011, around 10:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of Center Street, where Jones sustained fatal injuries from the beating.
Sgt. Sean Fleming stated that the police are uncertain about the relationship between Davis and Jones or the motive behind the attack. The investigation, which led to Davis being identified as the suspect, was aided by tips from citizens and physical evidence, though the specific nature of the evidence was not disclosed.
A warrant for Davis' arrest was issued in August 2012, and he was apprehended on December 27 in Oakland. Upon arrest, Davis declined to speak with investigators.
