Jyisaiah Cuthrell, 26, a Black man from Lexington, North Carolina, died on July 24, 2025, after he was found just after 12:30 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds on the front porch of a home in the 200 block of Federal Street. Officers rendered lifesaving aid before he was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police immediately opened a homicide investigation and emphasized the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident with no broader threat to the public.
Within hours, detectives identified a suspect and arrested 21-year-old Jarvis Lewis Carroll of Lexington at an address on Tucson Way in Davidson County. Carroll was charged with murder in Cuthrell's killing. Authorities noted assistance from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office during the arrest and asked anyone with information to contact Lexington police or area Crimestoppers.
As the case developed, investigators made a second arrest. On July 27, police took 18-year-old Lily Attaya You of Lexington into custody and charged her with felony accessory after the fact to murder, alleging she helped Carroll flee and hide from authorities after the shooting. She was held on a $250,000 secured bond, with a first court appearance set for August 5. The investigation remains active.
Loved ones later marked Cuthrell's death in obituaries and memorial posts, identifying him as a 2018 graduate of Lexington Senior High School who died on July 24, 2025. Community memorial pages also recorded his death to gun violence on that date in Lexington.
