In the early morning hours of June 11, 2025, violence shattered the quiet of a Heavener, Oklahoma apartment complex on State Highway 128. Inside one of the units, officers discovered a tragic scene. A 20-year-old male, Dylan McGee, was found deceased, and 21-year-old Kelsey Strickland, a mother of four, was critically injured from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency services rushed Kelsey to a local hospital, where she fought for her life for nearly a week.
Despite the medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on June 17, 2025.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in cooperation with the Heavener Police Department and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. While the investigation is ongoing, the OSBI has stated that no suspects are believed to be at large. However, they have not publicly confirmed if any arrests have been made in connection with the incident that is now being investigated as a double homicide.
In the wake of this tragedy, Kelsey's family has been engulfed in a wave of grief and emotional turmoil. Her younger sister, Brilynn Strickland, took to social media to express the family's pain and frustration, urging people to stop sharing photos of Kelsey with Dylan McGee, whom she identified as the person who shot her sister. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Kelsey's stepmother, Courtney Strickland, to help with medical expenses, travel costs, and the needs of Kelsey's four young children who were left without their mother. The page described Kelsey as being peacefully asleep when the violent act occurred, irrevocably changing her world and the lives of her children.
