Hillary Farr, 17, was shot on Sunday night, September 14, 2025, on the 3800 block of Alvin Avenue in Dayton. Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. and found a teenager with a gunshot wound; he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Hillary Farr.
In the wake of the killing, relatives and neighbors gathered outside the family home, remembering a senior at Dunbar High School who loved his siblings, his
church, and the neighborhood where he grew up. His mother, Tierra Stark, told local reporters that he had been outside talking with someone in a car when gunfire erupted, and family members said the shooting happened in front of younger siblings. An obituary later described a hardworking teenager who loved playing basketball and writing raps, with services set for late September at Thomas Funeral Home.
Recorded 911 calls from that evening captured the panic on Alvin Avenue: callers described teens pulling up in a car, one of them getting out and shooting another, as bystanders pleaded for help. Investigators from the Dayton Police Department's Homicide Unit took the lead, and city leaders later said detectives believed the shooter and Farr knew each other. Through mid-September coverage and subsequent updates into October, police had not announced any arrests or publicly identified a suspect, and the case remained under active investigation.
