In the early hours of a Monday morning in Albany, New York, the life of 32-year-old Prince Cureton was cut short. On June 16, 2025, just before 1 a.m., gunfire erupted near the intersection of Third Avenue and Sloan Street. Cureton was standing in front of a house when he was struck by a gunshot to his chest. He was quickly transported to Albany Medical Center, but the wound proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
This tragic event marked the city's fourth homicide of the year.
Prince Shaquawn Cureton III, born on September 29, 1992, was a graduate of Albany High School's class of 2011. Remembered as a family man, he was known for his quiet strength, humor, and a smile that could light up any room. He was a protector of his loved ones and had worked at various places, including the New York State, Wal-Mart, and Albany Medical Center. His death left a void in the lives of his parents, siblings, and many other relatives and friends who mourned the loss of a man they considered not just a 'Prince,' but a 'KING'.
The investigation into Cureton's death is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. In an effort to generate leads, the Albany Police Department released grainy surveillance photographs in mid-September showing two masked individuals who they believe are connected to the homicide. The authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify these individuals and bring justice for Prince Cureton and his grieving family.
