On a Tuesday evening in Haverstraw, New York, 22-year-old Muhssia King, a man known to his loved ones as 'Bean,' was fatally shot on September 9, 2025. He had just returned home from work shortly after 8:30 p.m. and was sitting in the driver's seat of his car on Clove Avenue, reportedly sending a text message, when he was ambushed. An unknown number of assailants approached the vehicle and fired multiple rounds, striking King several times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sound of the gunshots was initially mistaken for fireworks by some residents. One witness recalled hearing a woman scream followed by loud bangs. Another neighbor recounted the distressing experience of hearing King's cries of pain in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Shortly after, two men dressed in black were seen running through the backyards in the vicinity and heading toward Main Street. A witness described one of the men as being around six feet tall with the other being slightly shorter. It was also noted that one of the individuals had 'frizzy hair' that was visible under the hood of his sweatshirt.
The Haverstraw Police Department, with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and other state and local law enforcement agencies, launched a homicide investigation. Investigators spent the following day canvassing the neighborhood, searching for evidence in nearby yards and alleys with the use of drones and metal detectors. Family and friends of Muhssia King were left devastated by the sudden and violent loss. His father, who was across the country in his semi-truck when he received the news, described his son as an 'awesome, enthusiastic kid' who he loved dearly. King was a former defensive back for the North Rockland High School Red Raiders football team and had also played some college football. His family shared that he had a passion for dancing and was considering a future in sports medicine. In the days following his death, his father appealed to the community for support in bringing the perpetrators to justice. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Muhssia King, and the investigation remains ongoing.
