In the late morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, tragedy struck in a residential neighborhood in Millville, New Jersey. Roshaud Rhett, a 20-year-old male, was found with a gunshot wound on the 300 block of Maurice Street around 11:05 a.m. Emergency services responded, and Rhett was quickly transported to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, prompted an immediate homicide investigation by the Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation into Rhett's death led authorities to identify three suspects. Authorities alleged that 19-year-old Trasuf J. Bennett of Bridgeton pulled up in a vehicle and shot Rhett. In the ensuing chaos, another man, 19-year-old James L. Henry of Millville, reportedly returned fire at Bennett's vehicle. Both Bennett and Henry were initially at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Within days, the investigation progressed significantly, leading to the apprehension of all three suspects. Trasuf J. Bennett was arrested in Trenton. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and multiple weapons offenses. James L. Henry was also located and arrested in Millville. He faced charges for unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for his role in the incident. Additionally, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with murder in the first degree and conspiracy to commit murder, among other weapons offenses, in connection to Rhett's death.
