In the predawn hours of August 16, 2026, the quiet of Millville, New Jersey, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police responded to the area of a gas station on North High Street at approximately 3:40 a.m., they discovered a tragic scene. Inside a Honda CRV, they found 32-year-old Andy Steven Brazil of Vineland and 32-year-old Ashley Brown of Millville. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown was in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to her head, while Brazil was a passenger in the rear seat, having been shot in the head and torso.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly identified two suspects. Surveillance video from a convenience store adjacent to the gas station showed one of the suspects, 50-year-old Daniel L. Gilmore Jr. of Millville, speaking with Ashley Brown inside the store. He then followed her out to the Honda CRV. Investigators allege that Gilmore retrieved a gun from his own car and fired at least 10 shots into the vehicle carrying Brazil, Brown, another adult woman, and a female juvenile. The other two occupants of the vehicle were not physically harmed. On August 18, 2026, Gilmore was charged with two counts of homicide and two counts of attempted murder, among other offenses. He was taken into custody the following day, and prosecutors announced their intention to seek his pretrial detention.
A second man, 52-year-old James Harris of Absecon, was also implicated in the incident. Authorities allege that during the same event, Harris fired shots at a different vehicle that was passing by. He was taken into custody on August 17, 2026, and charged with several weapons offenses. The investigation into the double homicide remains active and ongoing by the Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit. While arrests have been made and charges have been filed, the legal proceedings are still in their early stages, and authorities have not publicly released a motive for the shooting.
