On the evening of June 15, 2025, authorities in St. Louis County, Missouri, were alerted to a distressing situation in the Norwood Court neighborhood. Around 9:50 p.m., police officers responded to a call regarding a person slumped over inside a vehicle near the intersection of Lucas and Hunt Road and San Diego Avenue. Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered 45-year-old Martisha Hobson inside the car, suffering from a severe gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate attention of emergency personnel, the female victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation at the scene quickly identified a suspect who was present in the vehicle with the victim. Police detained 51-year-old Milo Rankins, who was located in the driver’s seat of the car where Hobson was found. According to court documents filed in the case, officers observed a firearm and spent shell casings in plain view inside the automobile. During the subsequent interaction with law enforcement, Rankins allegedly admitted to the officers that he had killed Hobson.
Following the incident, prosecutors charged Milo Rankins with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Hobson’s death. He was processed into custody and ordered held on a $1 million bond as the legal proceedings commenced. The initial probable cause statement highlighted the suspect's confession and the physical evidence recovered from the vehicle as key components leading to the immediate charges filed against him.
