David Carcamo, 21, a Hispanic/Latino male, was shot and killed on May 23, 2025, inside the AutoZone at 1201 E. Charleston Boulevard near Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. According to police and witness accounts summarized in local reporting, an “erratic” man entered the store barefoot and in his underwear. Carcamo—who was openly carrying a 9 mm handgun and had previously worked at the store—approached the man with a staffer to ask if he was alright.
In the moments that followed, the man lunged for Carcamo's holstered firearm; after a struggle over the weapon, multiple shots were fired, and Carcamo died at the scene just after 4:45 p.m.
Detectives identified the suspect as 36-year-old Kyle Robert Capucci. Officers found him about a block away with blood on his arms and shirt and took him into custody. In interviews cited by reporters, investigators said Capucci appeared to be in a mental health crisis, claiming someone was trying to shoot him; he told detectives he shot Carcamo and “had to.” Evidence collected at the scene included spent 9 mm casings, a Taurus semiautomatic pistol, and a holster.
Capucci was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and was ordered held without bail at his initial court appearance. Subsequent coverage noted that he remained in custody pending further proceedings, with a preliminary hearing set for July 1, and detailed prior convictions unrelated to this case. Authorities have not identified any prior relationship between Capucci and Carcamo, and the killing has been described in court and police records as unprovoked aside from the confrontation over the gun.
