Late on July 4, 2025, Gabriel King, 23, male, Black/African American, was shot multiple times at a gas station area off the 900 block of Cooper Road in South Jackson and was pronounced dead at the scene. The killing unfolded just a short distance from Jackson Police Department’s Precinct One station, casting a harsh light on a holiday night that saw multiple shootings across the city. Neighbors spoke of a young life cut down before it had found its stride.
