In what should have been a routine child custody exchange, a 48-year-old man, Brett Daigle, lost his life in a burst of gunfire. The male victim, a resident of Cañon City, Colorado, had traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for the arranged meeting. The events that unfolded on Saturday, May 24, 2025, tragically cut his life short, leaving a family devastated and a community in shock.
The fatal encounter occurred in the afternoon, at approximately 2:30 p.m., at a residence on South
Perkins Ferry Road. During the exchange of his children, Daigle was shot multiple times. Deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene to find him deceased. The shooting took place in the presence of the children he shared with his ex-partner.
Witnesses at the scene identified 43-year-old Randolyn Allen, of Lake Charles, as the person who discharged the firearm. Following an initial investigation and interviews with multiple witnesses, detectives arrested Allen. She was subsequently booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with second-degree murder. At the time of her arrest, a bond had not yet been set. Reports indicated that Daigle had recently filed a motion to modify their existing custody arrangements. The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
