In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 9, 2025, the life of 25-year-old Javin M. Augustus of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. The fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of Cowboys Bar on Common Street, a local nightclub. An altercation that began as a verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight, shattering the pre-dawn quiet with the sound of gunfire.
Responding to reports of the shooting at approximately 5 a.m., deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's
Office arrived to find Augustus suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to identify 34-year-old Fabian D. Charles, a resident of Port Arthur, Texas, as the suspect. According to authorities, Charles discharged a firearm during the physical altercation, striking Augustus. Several witnesses at the scene were interviewed, which assisted law enforcement in their investigation.
Fabian D. Charles was subsequently arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He faces multiple serious charges, including second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon by discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and obstruction of justice. A judge set his bond at $1.7 million. Under Louisiana law, a conviction for second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
