On March 13, 1954, the body of 33-year-old union leader James Harry Hartley, a male, was discovered in a shallow grave in the desert near Sloan, Nevada. His remains were found on Paradise Road near the old Los Angeles Highway. An autopsy later determined that Hartley had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
