In the small Iron Range city of Chisholm, Minnesota, a sense of shock and sorrow befell the community on the evening of June 17, 2025. On that tragic Tuesday, 30-year-old Lindsay Kaye Adams Graff, a White/Caucasian female, was killed in a violent incident that unfolded at a residence on 5th Street Northwest. The tranquility of the neighborhood was shattered shortly after 9:30 p.m.
when police received a distressing call about a man on the front steps of the home, covered in blood.
First responders arrived at the scene to find 25-year-old Ryder Presley Grove suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. As medical aid was rendered to Grove, who was expected to survive his injuries, a perimeter was established around the house. For the safety of the neighborhood, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order that would last for several hours into the early morning. The community waited in suspense, unaware of the full extent of the tragedy that had occurred inside the home.
Once the scene was secured and authorities made their way inside, they discovered the bodies of Lindsay Graff and 34-year-old Leo James Schweiss of Hibbing. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds in what investigators would later describe as an apparent murder-suicide. It is believed that Schweiss, identified as Graff's ex-boyfriend, shot and killed her and also shot Grove before turning the gun on himself. With all individuals involved accounted for, the police confirmed that they were not searching for any other suspects in connection with the incident.
