On the night of the Fourth of July, a celebration in Dequincy, Louisiana, turned tragic, ending in the death of 26-year-old Cortez D. Boston. At approximately 10 p.m., deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 1100 block of Allen Street following a 911 call. Upon their arrival, they discovered Boston at the scene, having succumbed to what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The initial investigation brought to light a chaotic scene where an altercation had
escalated into an exchange of gunfire. It was determined that another individual, 20-year-old Clint L. Mott, Jr. of Sulphur, was also wounded in the shootout. He had already been taken to a local hospital for treatment before law enforcement arrived. Authorities pieced together that both Boston and Mott had been actively involved in the shooting incident.
Following the gathering of evidence and further investigation, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Mott. A few days later, on the afternoon of July 7, Mott turned himself in to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. He was subsequently booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of second-degree murder and the illegal use of a weapon during a crime of violence. A judge set his bond at $900,000. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials noting that more arrests could be made as the case develops.
