In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 18, 2018, a fatal altercation in a Dequincy, Louisiana mobile home park resulted in the death of 36-year-old Jason Hutson, a male resident of Buffalo, Kansas. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 4 a.m. at a mobile home park located at 1600 W. 4th Street. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Hutson on the ground, unconscious and bleeding from the head.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators learned that Hutson had been involved in a physical altercation with another resident of the park, identified as 30-year-old Andrew J. Tiner of Lake Jackson, Texas. Following the initial dispute, Hutson went back to his residence and emerged with at least one firearm, an AR-15. Shortly after, witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Tiner had also returned to his own residence to retrieve a firearm.
From outside his mobile home, Tiner shot Hutson. After Hutson fell to the ground, Tiner approached him, took the rifle from him, and struck him in the head with the butt of the weapon. Despite extensive medical treatment at the hospital, Jason Hutson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Andrew J. Tiner was arrested at the scene and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He was initially charged with aggravated second-degree battery, with no bond set at the time of his arrest. Authorities indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that additional charges were possible.
