On the night of June 14, 2025, Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, a 20-year-old male from Silver Spring, Maryland, was fatally shot in what police have described as a highway ambush. The incident occurred on eastbound Interstate 70, near Route 27 in Mount Airy. Urrea was a passenger in a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck with five other men at the time of the shooting.
