Maria Jenkins, a 34-year-old Black/African American woman, was caught in the chaos of an argument that erupted just before dawn inside the Marathon gas station at 3344 Puritan Avenue on Detroit’s west side on July 28, 2025. Police were dispatched at about 3:56 a.m. and found another victim, 32-year-old Martin Clay, collapsed in the entrance with multiple gunshot wounds, while Maria Jenkins, age 34, was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound to her torso.
