In the late afternoon of July 3, 2025, a distressing discovery was made in a residential area of Waldorf, Maryland. David Leroy Raley, a 47-year-old male, was found unconscious and lying on the ground just outside the door of an apartment in the 3000 block of October Place. The call to authorities came in at approximately 4:23 p.m., reporting an unconscious man.
Upon their arrival, officers from the Charles County Sheriff's Office discovered that Raley had sustained a gunshot wound to
his upper body. Both the officers and emergency medical services personnel who responded to the scene immediately rendered first aid in an attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, David Leroy Raley was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of his death.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office quickly classified the case as a homicide and launched a full investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives began canvassing the densely populated residential area, seeking to identify any potential witnesses who may have seen or heard something around the time of the incident. They also started searching for any surveillance footage from the surrounding vicinity that might provide clues.
As of the initial reports, law enforcement officials had not released any information regarding a potential motive for the shooting, nor had they publicly identified any suspects. It remains unclear whether investigators believe the shooting was a targeted or a random act of violence.
