On the evening of the Fourth of July in 2025, while the sky over Baltimore, Maryland, was intermittently illuminated by fireworks, Jamard Thomas, a 40-year-old Black man, was shot multiple times. The incident occurred on the 2600 block of Greenmount Avenue at approximately 9:24 p.m. Shortly after police were called to the scene, Thomas walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Initially listed in critical condition, detectives from the Northern District began an
investigation into the shooting. Despite receiving medical care through the holiday weekend, Jamard Thomas succumbed to his injuries four days later, on July 8, 2025. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the days that followed, the Baltimore Police Department publicly identified Thomas as a homicide victim. However, investigators have released little information regarding a possible motive for the shooting. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and no description of any suspect or suspects has been provided to the public. The case remains open, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact homicide detectives or Metro Crime Stoppers.
