A teenage girl's remains are found a day after she vanished while hitchhiking Cindy Cook, a 16-year-old girl from Lemmon Valley, Nevada, was tragically found murdered on January 25, 1981. The day prior, Cindy had been last seen hitchhiking from her home to a nearby arcade in the Lemmon Valley shopping center. She left her home at approximately 7:00 p.m. and stayed at the arcade until 8:30 p.m., when she played games with friends before heading out.
Unfortunately, she never made it back home.
Her body was discovered the next day near the intersection of Cold Springs Drive and Village Parkway, just north of Reno. She was found in the sagebrush, not far from the roadway. Cindy's purse was located some distance away from her body, which heightened suspicions of foul play. Her death has since remained an unsolved case.
Law enforcement worked to uncover leads and appealed for public help, but no one has been held accountable for Cindy's death. Her murder is one of many unresolved cases from the region during that period, leaving her family and community without the justice and closure they seek. The case remains open, with authorities still urging anyone with information to come forward.
