In the summer of 2025, the life of 64-year-old Dennis Dorsch, a White male, came to a tragic end inside a residence on the 1500 block of Olmstead Street in Baltimore. On the afternoon of July 19th, a citizen flagged down a Southern District police officer to report a shooting. When officers entered the home, they discovered Dorsch suffering from a gunshot wound to an extremity.
Medical personnel transported Dorsch to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. Given the violent nature of the incident, homicide detectives from the Baltimore Police Department promptly took control of the investigation, treating it as a suspected murder. The initial report was logged as one of the city's homicides for the month of July.
However, as the investigation progressed, the narrative of a homicide began to change. In the months that followed the incident, detectives continued their work, examining the evidence and circumstances surrounding the shooting. By December of that year, the Baltimore Police Department announced a significant update in the case. After a thorough investigation, officials reclassified Dorsch's death, determining that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. This finding concluded the investigation, clearing any suspicion of foul play and consequently, no arrests were made or suspects sought in connection with his death. The case was officially removed from the city's homicide count.
