In the fall of 2017, a tragedy struck the community of Lee's Summit, Missouri, with the death of 17-year-old Gemesha Thomas. A senior at Lee's Summit North High School, the young woman died on September 29, 2017. Her passing was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound that occurred within the school premises.
