In the fall of 2025, a domestic tragedy unfolded in a Georgetown Township apartment complex near Grandville, Michigan, ending the life of 52-year-old Elieser Lores Montano. On the morning of September 25th, Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a Brookmeadow Court apartment following a distressing 911 call. The caller, Michelle Matos-Colon, calmly informed the dispatcher that she had shot her husband.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered Mr.
Lores Montano deceased in a stairwell inside the building. An autopsy would later confirm he died from a single gunshot wound to the face, and his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators found a single casing from a. 9mm handgun inside the apartment, near the couch. The position of the body and evidence at the scene suggested that Elieser was standing near the front door of the apartment when he was shot.
Michelle Matos-Colon, his 49-year-old wife, was taken into custody. During questioning, she claimed that she was a victim of domestic violence that had gone on for years. She told detectives that she and her husband had been experiencing marital problems, and he had been staying elsewhere for a few days prior to the incident. On the morning of the shooting, he had come to the apartment to talk, but an argument ensued. Matos-Colon alleged that her husband had pushed and slapped her. She stated that as he came toward her aggressively near the front door, she retrieved her handgun from her purse and shot him. She admitted to knowing he was unarmed.
Court documents later revealed that Matos-Colon had allegedly consumed 29 beers in the hours leading up to the fatal encounter. She reportedly told detectives that if she had been sober, she would not have killed her husband. The couple was known to the sheriff's department due to a history of prior domestic incidents. Following the investigation, Michelle Matos-Colon was charged with open murder and felony firearm possession. She was arraigned, and her bond was set at $1 million as the legal proceedings against her commenced.
