In a tragic turn of events on the evening of Thursday, February 27, 2025, a dispute between roommates in an Albion, Michigan apartment escalated to a fatal shooting. The Albion Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the 1300 block of Hillside Road following a trouble complaint. Upon their arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Rajae Flowers-Taylor of Lansing inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Flowers-Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 18-year-old Amaurion Alonzo Watts of Albion, who was also present at the scene and was taken into custody. According to law enforcement, the incident was isolated and stemmed from an argument between Flowers-Taylor and Watts, who had recently become roommates along with their girlfriends.
Following his arrest, Amaurion Alonzo Watts was arraigned and formally charged with homicide and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond at the Calhoun County jail. A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for Monday, March 17, at the 10th District Court in Battle Creek.
