On the night of May 24, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on Franklin Hill Avenue in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, leading to the tragic death of 66-year-old Black / African American male, Anthony McIntosh. Responding to a ShotSpotter activation at approximately 9:45 p.m., Boston police officers arrived at the scene to find a grim tableau.
Two men were down, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
McIntosh, a Dorchester resident, and 36-year-old Walter Wilkens of Quincy were immediately transported to local hospitals for urgent medical care. Wilkens succumbed to his injuries that same night. McIntosh, known to some as "6 OG," fought for his life for several more days. Friends and family remembered him as a humble and hardworking man who worked as a chef. Sadly, his battle ended the following week, and what was initially a homicide investigation became a double homicide case. His death marked the 14th and 15th homicides in Boston for the year 2025.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Boston Police Homicide Unit launched an intensive investigation into the Franklin Hill Avenue incident. Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses, working to piece together the events that led to the deaths of two men. As of early June 2025, authorities had not announced any arrests in connection with the double homicide. The search for the suspect or suspects responsible for the deaths of Anthony McIntosh and Walter Wilkens remains active and ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the homicide unit, offering the option to submit tips anonymously.
