In the early evening of May 26, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a New Bedford neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Kimberl Gedeon, a 21-year-old Black / African American male, was found on the sidewalk at the intersection of Bedford Street and South Seventh Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived at the scene around 9:10 p.m. and rushed him to St.
Luke's Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation by local and state authorities.
The investigation into Kimberl Gedeon's death involved the coordinated efforts of New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, and homicide unit prosecutors. Their work led to a significant breakthrough in the case. By mid-July, authorities announced that six individuals had been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects, a mix of teenagers and adults from both New Bedford and nearby Fall River, faced a range of serious charges, bringing a sense of progress to a community shaken by the violence.
Three of the individuals, 18-year-old Elias Ramos, 33-year-old William Allen Robinson, and a 17-year-old, all from Fall River, were charged with murder and held without bail. Another man, 30-year-old Ahkari Jones of New Bedford, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and was held on high cash bail. At the time of the incident, Jones was already out on bail for a separate narcotics case, which was subsequently revoked. Additionally, two 19-year-old women, Nezziah Davis of New Bedford and Keyshla Martinez Matta of Fall River, faced charges of assault and battery by discharge of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license. They were also held without bail. The series of arrests marked a crucial turning point in the pursuit of justice for Kimberl Gedeon and his grieving family.
