In the early morning hours of August 16, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the life of 30-year-old Kenneth Simms Jr. was tragically cut short. The male victim was killed by gun violence in what has been described as a homicide. The incident that led to his death took place in the 1200 block of Lesseps Street in the St. Claude neighborhood.
Later that same day, the New Orleans Police Department made a swift arrest in connection with the killing.
Homicide detectives identified Daniel Spencer as a suspect in the shooting. After obtaining a warrant for his arrest, police took Spencer into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Central Lockup and booked on a charge of second-degree murder. The investigation into the circumstances and motive surrounding the fatal shooting is ongoing.
Following his death, the family of Kenneth Simms Jr. announced that a celebration of his life would be held. His obituary remembered him and listed his surviving family members, including his parents, Dana Spencer and Kenneth Simms, Sr. Services were scheduled to be held at the Ray Avenue Baptist Church, with his final resting place to be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum in New Orleans.
