In the late evening of May 21, 2025, the life of 41-year-old Jeremy Beckworth, a male resident of Baxley, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Beckworth, a native of Appling County and an ironworker and welder by trade, was known for his outgoing personality and his love for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles.
On that Wednesday, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Baxley Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting near the intersection of Highland
Drive and Edgarton Road. Responding officers discovered Beckworth at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead. The shooting is reported to have occurred in front of the maintenance shop at Speer Homes. The investigation later revealed that Beckworth was with his girlfriend at the time of the incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Baxley Police Department to lead the death investigation. Following an investigation, the GBI identified 18-year-old Ty'Relle Tarver, of Baxley, as the suspect. The investigation indicates that Tarver fired multiple shots at Beckworth and his girlfriend, striking Beckworth.
On the morning of June 3, 2025, Ty'Relle Tarver was arrested without incident. He has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and Aggravated Assault in connection with Jeremy Beckworth's death. Following his arrest, Tarver was booked into the Appling County Jail. The GBI has stated that the investigation is active and ongoing. The case file will be turned over to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
