In the early morning hours of a late June day, the quiet of a Shepherdsville, Kentucky neighborhood was shattered by a fatal act of violence. Inside a residence on Pioneer Trail, 33-year-old Aaron Anthony Welker was found in his kitchen, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The tragic event unfolded on Sunday, June 29, 2025, prompting a call to the Pioneer Village Police Department just before 4:30 a.m., who then requested the assistance of the Kentucky State Police to
investigate the homicide.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Aaron Welker's body and encountered another male, 34-year-old Kent Russell, also of Shepherdsville. Russell was present at the home when officers arrived and was subsequently interviewed by Kentucky State Police detectives. Following the interview, Kent Russell was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Welker's death. He was then lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center. The Bullitt County Coroner's Office transported Welker's body to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville for an autopsy.
Aaron Welker, born in Louisville on November 24, 1991, was known as a loving son, a good brother, and a great father and uncle. He worked in the HVAC industry for Bryant Heating and Cooling. He found immense joy and comfort in spending time with his family, particularly enjoying days on the lake in his boat. He was a devoted father who loved watching his two sons, Mason L. Welker and Bryce Welker, play football and enjoyed playing paintball with them. His sudden and tragic death left behind his parents, James and Pamela Welker, his two sons, a sister, a brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
