In a quiet Shepherdsville, Kentucky neighborhood, the life of 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. was tragically cut short on November 8, 2023. Maurice, a male, and his 9-year-old brother, Jayden Howard, were found with gunshot wounds inside their home. Authorities were called to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. Another neighbor discovered the two boys in a bedroom and alerted the police that their mother, Tiffanie Lucas, had shot them.
When law enforcement arrived, they
found Lucas, then 32, collapsing on a neighbor's driveway. Inside the home, the two boys were discovered covered in blood. Both children were transported to a hospital where they later died from their injuries. A gun was found in the residence.
Tiffanie Lucas was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of her sons. During the initial investigation, Lucas claimed the shootings were an accident and that she had been manipulated by the internet, Facebook, and 'Wi-Fi' to harm her children. Despite an initial plan to use an insanity defense, Lucas later entered an open guilty plea to two counts of murder in October 2024. This type of plea means a judge will determine her sentence without a plea agreement. Family members had previously expressed concerns and had contacted Child Protective Services on multiple occasions prior to the boys' deaths. Lucas faces a sentence ranging from 20 years to life for each count of murder.
