Hispanic/Latino. Marco Velasquez-Sierra, age 36, male, was found with a gunshot wound to the head late on July 4, 2025, in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood. Responding officers located Marco Velasquez-Sierra around 11:55 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Winchester Avenue and he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police and the Cook County medical examiner identified the victim as Marco Velasquez-Sierra, age 36, male, and noted the fatal head wound consistent with a shooting. The location and timing placed the incident near the close of the holiday, when calls of a person shot led officers to the scene.
As of the reports published that weekend, no arrests had been made in the killing of Marco Velasquez-Sierra, age 36, male. Detectives with CPD’s Area One were investigating, and authorities had not announced a suspect or suspects nor released a detailed description.
