In the dark early hours of August 2, 2025, police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Russell Cave Road outside the Northside branch of the Lexington Public Library, where they found two men shot and dying on the pavement. The Fayette County Coroner later identified the victims as Edward Parker, 52, of Lexington, and Ashim Heanacho, 71, both pronounced dead at the scene.
