In a quiet home in LaPorte County, Indiana, a grim discovery was made on Sunday, May 25, 2025, that brought a tragic end to the lives of three elderly family members. Linda Ciastko, a 73-year-old female, was found deceased inside her residence in the 5600-west block of C.R. 250 North. Her death was the result of a single gunshot wound to the head.
The discovery was made by deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff's Office, who were responding to a request for a welfare check at the
home. Leonard Ciastko's daughter had become concerned after being unable to reach him by phone. Alongside Linda, authorities also found her 102-year-old mother, Harriet Kowalski, and Linda's 75-year-old husband, Leonard Ciastko. Both had also sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division quickly determined that the incident was an isolated event, with no ongoing threat to the public. The La Porte County Coroner, Lynn Swanson, later confirmed the identities of the three individuals. While the official investigation is still pending the final results of autopsies, authorities have characterized the event as an apparent double murder-suicide. It is believed that Leonard Ciastko shot his wife, Linda, and her mother, Harriet Kowalski, before turning the gun on himself. At this time, no other suspects are being sought in connection with the deaths.
