In the quiet community of Cedar Falls, Iowa, a domestic dispute on the evening of June 4, 2025, ended in the tragic death of 72-year-old David Alan Charlton. Police were dispatched to his residence on Newland Drive around 6:30 p.m. following a report of a domestic disturbance and a possible shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered David Charlton, a male, deceased inside the home.
The ensuing investigation quickly centered on his wife, 66-year-old Kimberly Ann Charlton.
According to statements she made to the police, the incident began as a verbal argument that escalated. She reported that her husband attempted to physically assault her, at which point the couple's dog intervened. Following this, David Charlton allegedly threatened the dog with a cane.
Kimberly Charlton told investigators that she then retrieved a handgun. As her husband followed the dog down a hallway, she warned him to stop before shooting him once in the back. The gunshot wound proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kimberly Ann Charlton was taken into custody that evening and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. She was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail and held on a $1,000,000 bond. No other suspects were identified by the authorities in connection with the death of David Charlton.
