On a Wednesday evening in Warner Robins, Georgia, 18-year-old Qwamaine Lewis was shot and subsequently died from his injuries in what police believe began as a robbery. The incident, which marked the 12th homicide in Houston County that year, has raised concerns about youth violence in the community.
The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the 100 block of South Houston Lake Road. Warner Robins police officers responded to a 911 call and found Lewis with a single gunshot wound. He was transported to Atrium Health Navicent where he underwent emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries just before 1 a.m. the following morning, approximately five hours after being shot.
In the hours following the shooting, law enforcement arrested two teenage suspects in Americus, Georgia. Kel'zavious Felder, 19, and Jaylen McSwain, 18, were located near a white BMW that was reportedly involved in the incident. A BOLO alert was issued for the vehicle, and a caller later reported it smoking on the side of the road, leading to the suspects' apprehension.
Both Felder and McSwain were charged with felony murder in connection with Lewis's death. In addition to the murder charge, Felder faced charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession of a stolen firearm. McSwain was also charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a felony. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities have not released further details about the specific circumstances that led to the fatal shooting or the relationship between Lewis and the two suspects. The case has been turned over to the Houston County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
