In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the quiet of a Fort Dodge, Iowa, neighborhood was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. At approximately 1:04 AM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call reporting the shot in the area of 524 N 28th Street. Officers from the Fort Dodge Police Department were dispatched to the scene, where they made a grim discovery outside an apartment building: the body of a deceased adult male who had sustained a fatal gunshot
wound. The victim was later identified as 45-year-old Justo Cruz Calindo of Fort Dodge, a Hispanic male.
Investigators from the Fort Dodge Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations and the Webster County Attorney's Office, immediately began a thorough investigation. They canvassed the neighborhood, conducted interviews with residents, and meticulously gathered evidence from the scene. The case was treated as a homicide from the outset, with law enforcement dedicating significant resources to piecing together the events that led to Calindo's death. The initial withholding of Calindo's name was to ensure his next of kin could be properly notified.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on a person of interest. As a result of their efforts, police arrested 38-year-old Rolman H. Recinos Gonzales, also of Fort Dodge, in connection with the shooting. A search warrant executed at Recinos Gonzales' residence reportedly uncovered a stolen handgun and an AR-15-style rifle. Court documents indicated that Recinos Gonzales was aware that he was ineligible to possess firearms due to his citizenship status.
Rolman H. Recinos Gonzales was subsequently charged with Murder in the First Degree, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, and being a Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. He was booked into the Webster County Jail and held on a substantial cash-only bond. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
