In the early hours of the Fourth of July in Butler, Georgia, a family dispute ended in tragedy, leading to the death of 60-year-old Angela Montgomery. Angela was found deceased inside a residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The female victim was a beloved figure in her community, known for her dedication and compassionate nature. For two decades, she was a committed employee at the Taylor County Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she began as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was later promoted to Supervisor of Housekeeping. Born in Butler, she had returned to her hometown after graduating from high school in New York and had built a life there with her husband, Mack Montgomery.
The circumstances of her death were particularly shocking as the call to emergency services came from the alleged perpetrator himself. Zadarius Montgomery, Angela's 25-year-old nephew, dialed 911 at approximately 1:20 a.m. and informed the dispatcher that he had shot and killed his aunt. When officers from the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, along with the Reynolds and Butler Police Departments, arrived at the Roberta Highway home, they made contact with Zadarius Montgomery, who was then taken into custody.
Following the incident, Zadarius Montgomery was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Taylor County Jail. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead on the case, at the request of the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, to investigate the homicide. Angela Montgomery's body was scheduled to be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to be performed. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to understand the details of the altercation that led to the fatal shooting.
