Just after dawn on June 4, 2025, police converged on the railroad corridor by the Brightline station near Northwest 1st Avenue and 6th Street in downtown Miami, where they found two people struck by gunfire in a homeless encampment tucked against the tracks. The woman was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Nearby, officers discovered the second victim—Abran Cumba, male—who had suffered fatal wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
