Darius Coon, 31, a Black male, was found shot to death inside a parked SUV on the 10th floor of a downtown Miami parking garage at 230 NE 4th Street on the morning of July 19, 2025. Police were alerted after a foul odor was reported from the upper levels of the mixed-use garage that serves both condominium residents and hotel guests. Inside the vehicle were two victims—Coon and a woman identified as Charlotte Rodriguez, 35—both with multiple gunshot wounds.
Coon had moved to Miami from Detroit only a few months earlier. His family reported him missing on July 16 after he stopped answering calls, an unusual silence for a father who regularly checked in with loved ones. Detectives later confirmed his identity and notified relatives, who remembered him as a devoted dad and a football coach. Plans were made for his burial in Detroit on August 7, his birthday.
Investigators believe Coon and Rodriguez had met recently in South Florida and were out together in the days before their deaths. When officers processed the scene, families noted that valuables appeared undisturbed, deepening the mystery and suggesting the motive might not have been robbery. The discovery came after the bodies may have been inside the SUV for several days, prompting detectives to pursue surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
As of the latest reports, Miami police had not announced any arrests, and no suspects had been publicly identified. Detectives asked anyone who was in the garage between July 16 and July 19—or who might have seen the victims in the downtown area during that window—to come forward with tips, while families in both Michigan and New York pleaded for answers and justice.
