On the evening of August 13, 2025, 13-year-old Alan Reuben Martinez, a male from Cathedral City, was walking with two others along Whispering Palms Trail near Mission Indian Trail when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and a confrontation erupted. Gunfire followed, striking Alan Reuben Martinez; despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
