In the early morning hours of Monday, August 18, 2025, the life of Dennis Atkinson, a 40-year-old Black male from New Haven, Connecticut, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded around 4:44 a.m. at the intersection of Ferry and River Streets in the Fair Haven neighborhood. Officers were drawn to the scene by a ShotSpotter alert, a system designed to detect the sound of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Atkinson lying on the sidewalk, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
