In the early hours of September 20, 2025, the life of 16-year-old Caleb Toko, a Black/African American male from Denver, Colorado, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a shooting in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood, in the 18000 block of East 50th Place, between 1:30 and 1:48 a.m. There they discovered Caleb suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner later identified him as the victim.
Caleb was a junior and a student-athlete at Manual High School, where he played on the basketball team and had earned a letter in track. He was known to be a bright young man, full of life with a promising future ahead of him. He was not only dedicated to athletics but also to his academics, taking college courses through Colorado Early College with the goal of earning his associate's degree by the time he graduated high school in 2027. His aspirations included becoming a chef, a passion he learned from his stepfather, and starting his own clothing line.
The scene of the shooting offered few immediate clues for investigators. The circumstances that led to the gunfire and a possible motive remain unclear. As of the most recent updates, the Denver Police have not made any arrests in connection with Caleb Toko's death, nor have they publicly identified any suspects. The investigation is still active and ongoing, with detectives seeking leads and encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
