In the early morning hours of a Tuesday in a south Phoenix neighborhood, a family gathering turned into a scene of violence and loss. On June 24, 2025, Victor Morales Lubvio, a 48-year-old male, was shot and killed. The incident unfolded shortly before 2:30 a.m. near 7th Street and Dobbins Road.

Responding to a call about a shooting, Phoenix police officers arrived at the residence to find a chaotic situation. Victor Morales Lubvio had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A second victim, a woman who was shot in the arm, was also found at the scene. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later identified as the wife of the deceased and the mother of the suspect.

The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a family member as the perpetrator. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Victor Morales-Jimenez, the son of Victor Morales Lubvio. After initially fleeing the scene, Morales-Jimenez later turned himself in to the authorities. Police recovered a rifle from the backyard of the home.

Court documents suggest a possible motive for the tragic event. Witnesses reported that prior to the shooting, Victor Morales Lubvio had been assaulting his wife and another individual. It is believed that the altercation escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Victor Morales-Jimenez was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He was being held on a $1 million bond. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office later announced that a grand jury had indicted Morales-Jimenez on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault designated as a dangerous domestic violence offense, disorderly conduct, and misconduct involving weapons.
