In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Phoenix, Arizona, a violent home invasion shattered the quiet of a neighborhood near 24th Street and Southern Avenue, leaving three men dead, including 23-year-old Steven Brooks. The chaotic events of September 23, 2025, unfolded at a residence where gunfire was exchanged between intruders and at least one person inside the home.
Phoenix police responded to a chaotic scene that spanned multiple locations.
Two armed men had forced their way into the house, and a resident inside met them with gunfire. In the ensuing exchange, both intruders were shot. One of the suspects was struck, and the resident retreated to a bedroom. After hearing screams, the resident emerged and shot the second suspect. During the confrontation, the resident was also wounded.
When the violence subsided, two men were discovered deceased inside the home. Authorities later identified them as the suspects, David Rashad, 40, and Davontae Fletcher, 20. Steven Brooks was found in a nearby alley, having also been fatally shot. It is believed he was inside the home at the time of the invasion and was attempting to flee when he was killed. Two other individuals, including the homeowner, sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
The investigation into the deadly home invasion is ongoing. It has not yet been determined by law enforcement if there was any prior connection between the residents of the home and the two men who broke in. As the two primary suspects are deceased, the immediate investigation has focused on piecing together the events of that fatal night.
